Sustainability Solutions
There is no such thing as wastewater…just wasted water.
R3 is uniquely positioned to address the world’s increasing water challenges through our proactive and holistic approach to water stewardship. Our solutions are tailored for each business to ensure we achieve the regulatory, technical, financial, and sustainability objectives specific to each client and site.
We help our clients minimize water consumption, recycle and reuse water for non-potable uses, extract valuable resources from organic waste found in water, and eliminate contaminants that may be hazardous to the environment.
Each of our solutions is “fit for purpose” utilizing the best technology in the most cost-effective manner to accomplish your water goals now and into the future. Our engineering partners have experience in a variety of treatment technologies including ultra-filtration, membrane bioreactor (MBR), reverse osmosis (RO), aeration, ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, and sequential batch reactors (SBR).
Many of our solutions incorporate renewable energy, carbon capture, and/or hydrogen production to further ESG initiatives.
We aim to be your long-term sustainability partner, which means we place the utmost importance on quality design, construction, and operational performance.

Water reuse systems allow wastewater and stormwater to be stored, treated, and reused for non-potable purposes including:
- Landscape Irrigation with Enriched Wastewater Nutrients
- Irrigation for Agriculture
- Industrial Process Water for Power Plants, Refineries, Mills, and Factories
- Cooling Tower Make-Up
- Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Production
- Fire Suppression
- Dust Control or Surface Cleaning of Roads
- Concrete Mixing and Construction Processes
- Supplying Artificial Lakes and Aquifers
- Environmental Restoration
- Ground Water Replenishment
- Toilet Flushing
- Laundry
R3 specializes in both blackwater (i.e. water from toilets) and greywater (i.e. water from all drains except toilet) reuse, in addition to stormwater and rainwater capture for reuse.
Our facilities range from 50,000 to 50,000,000 gallons of water treated per day. Each facility is unique, as EPA effluent requirements and state reuse standards vary by industry and location.

Industrial plant operations need water for a variety of uses, including steam production, cooling tower and process water make-up, utility water, and product rinsing. As a result, complex wastewater is produced and requires pre-treatment before discharge or reuse is even possible.
Our innovative pre-treatment and treatment solutions place the necessary emphasis on environmental compliance, safety, and reliability needed for industrial wastewater and allow for optimal industrial wastewater reuse.
INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES
- Conventional Activated Sludge (CAS)
- Membrane Bioreactors (MBR)
- Fixed Film (FF)
- Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR)
- Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)
- Clarification
- Microfiltration (MF)
- Ultrafiltration (UF)
- Reverse Osmosis (RO)
- Aeration
- Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection
- Ozone Disinfection
- Sequential Batch Reactors (SBR)

Containerized systems have recently enabled property developers (residential, retail, and office) and small food & beverage processing plants to implement water reuse solutions, making ESG and LEED certification goals much easier to accomplish.
R3 works with the most innovative engineering partners to design modular, containerized, and discrete water reuse systems for the non-industrial business looking to make a significant impact on our environment.
Our containerized solutions can be designed to fit underground in a parking garage or loading dock, hidden in a mechanical closet, or showcased elegantly above ground to advertise your building’s commitment to sustainability.

Compounds that are considered contaminants in water, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, are rich in nutrients and energy. With the right technology, these compounds can be extracted from wastewater and used beneficially.
Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC), for example, converts organic waste and biosolids found in blackwater, greywater, and stormwater into clean, useful bioproducts. Rather than paying a premium to treat or truck away your sludge, reuse it for fertilizer, convert it into energy to power your water reuse facility or manufacturing plant, or generate additional revenue from issuing carbon credits.

Water is critical for energy production and can be continuously recycled and reused to power renewable energy systems.
Energy is equally critical for water treatment. Renewable energy solutions can be implemented to power water treatment systems creating a net-zero loop of renewable energy and water reuse.
We have experience developing solar energy, battery storage, and hydrogen-based electricity and thermal solutions, as well as implementing microgrid technologies for a cleaner and more reliable energy system.
